गुणत्रयविभागयोग

श्री भगवान बोले - इस ज्ञान का आश्रय लेकर मेरे स्वरूप को प्राप्त हुए योगीजन सृष्टि के आदि में उत्पन्न नहीं होते और प्रलय में भी व्याकुल नहीं होते।

The Blessed Lord said: Those who take refuge in this knowledge and attain My divine nature are not born at the time of creation, nor are they disturbed at the time of dissolution.

हे भारत! मेरी प्रकृति महान ब्रह्म है, उसमें मैं गर्भ स्थापित करता हूँ। उसी से सभी प्राणियों की उत्पत्ति होती है।

My womb is the great Brahman; in that I place the seed. From that, O Bharata, is the birth of all beings.

हे कुन्तीपुत्र! सम्पूर्ण योनियों में जितनी मूर्तियाँ (शरीर) उत्पन्न होती हैं, उन सबकी महान् ब्रह्म योनि (प्रकृति माता) है और मैं बीज देने वाला पिता हूँ।

O son of Kunti, whatever forms are born from all wombs, the great Brahman (prakriti) is their womb, and I am the seed-giving father.

श्री भगवान् बोले - हे महाबाहो! प्रकृति से उत्पन्न सत्त्व, रजस् और तमस् - ये तीनों गुण अविनाशी जीवात्मा को शरीर में बाँधते हैं।

The Supreme Lord said: O mighty-armed one! The three modes - goodness (sattva), passion (rajas), and ignorance (tamas) - born of material nature, bind the eternal soul to the body.

हे निष्पाप अर्जुन! इन तीनों गुणों में से सत्त्वगुण निर्मल होने के कारण प्रकाश करने वाला और विकार रहित है, वह सुख की आसक्ति से और ज्ञान की आसक्ति से बांधता है।

O sinless one, sattva guna, being pure, is luminous and free from evil. It binds the soul through attachment to happiness and attachment to knowledge.

हे कुन्तीपुत्र! रजोगुण को रागमय और तृष्णा तथा आसक्ति से उत्पन्न होने वाला जान। वह जीवात्मा को कर्मों की आसक्ति से बाँधता है।

Know rajas to be of the nature of passion, arising from craving and attachment. O son of Kunti, it binds the embodied soul through attachment to action.

तमोगुण अज्ञान से उत्पन्न होता है और सभी देहधारियों को मोहित करता है। हे भारत! यह प्रमाद, आलस्य और निद्रा से जीव को बांधता है।

Know that tamas (mode of ignorance) is born of ignorance and deludes all embodied beings. O Bharata, it binds the soul through negligence, laziness, and excessive sleep.

सत्त्वगुण सुख में आसक्त करता है, रजोगुण कर्म में आसक्त करता है हे भारत! और तमोगुण ज्ञान को ढककर प्रमाद में आसक्त करता है।

Sattva attaches one to happiness, rajas to action, O Bharata, while tamas, shrouding knowledge, attaches one to negligence.

हे भारत! रज और तम को दबाकर सत्त्व गुण प्रबल होता है, सत्त्व और तम को दबाकर रज गुण प्रबल होता है और सत्त्व तथा रज को दबाकर तम गुण प्रबल होता है।

O Bharata! At times sattva (goodness) prevails by overpowering rajas (passion) and tamas (ignorance); at times rajas prevails by overpowering sattva and tamas; and at times tamas prevails by overpowering sattva and rajas.

जब इस शरीर के सभी द्वारों (इन्द्रियों) में प्रकाश, ज्ञान और निर्मलता उत्पन्न होती है, तब यह जानना चाहिए कि सत्त्वगुण की वृद्धि हुई है।

When the light of knowledge shines through all the gates of the body, then it should be known that sattva (the mode of goodness) has increased.

श्री भगवान् बोले - हे भरतवंशी अर्जुन! रजोगुण की वृद्धि होने पर लोभ, प्रवृत्ति, कर्मों का आरम्भ, अशान्ति और स्पृहा - ये सब उत्पन्न होते हैं।

The Blessed Lord said: O best of the Bharatas! When rajas predominates, greed, activity, enterprise in actions, restlessness, and craving arise.

हे कुरुनन्दन! जब तमोगुण बढ़ता है, तब अज्ञान, आलस्य, प्रमाद और मोह उत्पन्न होते हैं।

O son of Kuru, when tamas predominates, darkness, inactivity, negligence, and delusion arise.

श्री भगवान् बोले - जब सत्त्वगुण की वृद्धि में देहधारी की मृत्यु होती है, तब वह उत्तम ज्ञानियों के निर्मल लोकों को प्राप्त होता है।

The Supreme Lord said: When one dies in the mode of goodness, he attains to the pure worlds of the great sages.

रजोगुण में मृत्यु होने पर मनुष्य कर्म से आसक्त लोगों में जन्म लेता है; और तमोगुण में मृत्यु होने पर मूर्ख योनि में जन्म लेता है।

Dying in rajas, one is born among those attached to action; dying in tamas, one is born in deluded wombs.

सात्त्विक कर्म का फल सुख और पवित्रता कहा गया है, राजस कर्म का फल दुःख है और तामसिक कर्म का फल अज्ञान है।

The fruit of sattvic action is said to be pure and beneficial; the fruit of rajasic action is pain, and the fruit of tamasic action is ignorance.

सत्त्वगुण से ज्ञान की उत्पत्ति होती है, रजोगुण से लोभ उत्पन्न होता है, और तमोगुण से प्रमाद, मोह तथा अज्ञान उत्पन्न होते हैं।

From sattva arises knowledge, from rajas comes greed, and from tamas arise negligence, delusion and ignorance.

श्री भगवान बोले- सत्त्वगुण में स्थित लोग ऊपर (उत्तम लोकों में) जाते हैं, रजोगुण में स्थित लोग मध्य में (मनुष्यलोक में) ठहरते हैं और निम्न गुण की वृत्ति में स्थित तामसी लोग अधो गति (नीचे के लोकों) में जाते हैं।

The Supreme Lord said: Those established in sattva go upward (to higher realms), those in rajas remain in the middle (human realm), and those situated in the activities of the lowest mode, tamas, go downward (to lower realms).

जब द्रष्टा गुणों के अतिरिक्त अन्य किसी कर्ता को नहीं देखता और गुणों से परे तत्त्व को जानता है, तब वह मेरे भाव को प्राप्त होता है।

When the seer perceives no doer other than the three modes of nature and knows that which is beyond the modes, such a person attains My divine nature.

श्री भगवान् ने कहा - इस शरीर से उत्पन्न होने वाले इन तीनों गुणों को पार करके जीव जन्म, मृत्यु, वृद्धावस्था और दुःखों से मुक्त होकर अमृत को प्राप्त करता है।

The Blessed Lord said: When the embodied soul transcends these three modes of nature that give rise to the body, it is freed from birth, death, old age, and suffering, and attains immortality.

अर्जुन बोले - हे प्रभो! इन तीनों गुणों से अतीत पुरुष किन लक्षणों से युक्त होता है? उसका आचरण कैसा होता है और वह किस प्रकार इन तीनों गुणों से पार हो जाता है?

Arjuna said: O Lord, by what signs is one known who has transcended these three modes of nature? What is his conduct, and how does he go beyond these three modes?

हे पाण्डव! जो न तो प्रकाश (सत्त्व), प्रवृत्ति (रजस) और मोह (तमस) के उदय होने पर उनसे द्वेष करता है, और न ही उनके शान्त होने पर उनकी इच्छा करता है...

O Pandava, one who neither hates illumination, activity, and delusion when they arise, nor longs for them when they cease...

जो मनुष्य उदासीन के समान स्थित रहता है और गुणों से विचलित नहीं होता, यह जानकर कि गुण ही गुणों में प्रवृत्त हैं, वह स्थिर रहता है।

He who sits like one indifferent, unshaken by the gunas, knowing that the gunas alone act, remains steady and unmoved.

जो सुख-दुःख में समान रहता है, आत्मस्थित है, मिट्टी, पत्थर और सोने को समान मानता है, प्रिय और अप्रिय में समान है, निन्दा और स्तुति में समान रहता है, वह धीर है।

Balanced in pleasure and pain, self-poised, regarding a clod, stone, and gold alike, the same toward the pleasant and unpleasant, steady in praise and blame.

जो मान और अपमान में समान है, मित्र और शत्रु के पक्ष में समान रहता है और सभी आरम्भों का त्यागी है, वह गुणातीत कहा जाता है।

Equal in honor and dishonor, the same to friend and foe, abandoning all undertakings—such a person is said to have transcended the gunas.

जो मुझे अव्यभिचारी भक्तियोग से सेवा करता है, वह इन तीनों गुणों को पार करके ब्रह्म को प्राप्त होने के लिए योग्य हो जाता है।

One who serves Me with unwavering devotional service transcends these three modes of nature and becomes eligible for realizing Brahman.

क्योंकि मैं ही उस अमर, अविनाशी ब्रह्म का आधार हूँ, और शाश्वत धर्म तथा परम सुख का भी आधार हूँ।

For I am the foundation of the immortal and imperishable Brahman, of eternal dharma, and of absolute bliss.
